How to Care for Your Moroccan Kaftan
A kaftan combines fabric, construction and finishing details that deserve careful handling. The care label on your garment is the starting point. Follow its instructions rather than applying the same washing method to every silk, crepe, velvet or brocade piece.
Check the label and the whole garment
A two-piece ensemble may combine different fabrics. The outer kimono and inner kaftan can have different care needs, and trims or embroidery may require more delicate treatment than the base fabric. If your label specifies dry cleaning, choose a professional cleaner and point out the sfifa, handmade buttons and embroidery.
Do not assume that a fabric described as crepe can be machine washed, or that every velvet or brocade has the same fibre content. Read the product information and ask our team if you need clarification about your piece.
Handle finishing details gently
Avoid pulling on aakaids buttons or catching decorative trims on jewellery and bags. Support the fabric when fastening buttons. After wearing, check for loose threads or a fastening that needs attention; pulling at a thread can make the problem worse.
Store with the shape in mind
Allow your garment to air in a dry, shaded space before storing it. Keep it away from direct sunlight and damp conditions. A suitable padded hanger can support lighter garments; for a heavier or embellished piece, ask your cleaner whether folded storage with tissue would better protect its shape.
Store separate layers without placing pressure on raised embroidery or buttons. Give belts and tassels enough space to avoid tangling.
Before the next occasion
Check your outfit early enough to arrange cleaning or small repairs. Use only a pressing or steaming method suitable for the care label and fabric, and avoid direct heat on decorative details.
